Author Guidelines

Desultanah: Journal of Education and Social Sciences (D-JESS) invites scholars, researchers, and practitioners to submit original research articles, theoretical papers, and case studies that focus on educational and social sciences. Manuscripts must be written in accordance with the following guidelines to ensure quality, consistency, and publication readiness.

1. General Requirements

  • Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.

  • Submissions must be written in English or Bahasa Indonesia using academic and formal language.

  • All articles undergo a double-blind peer review process.

  • Manuscript length should be between 4,000 to 8,000 words, including tables, figures, references, and appendices.

  • Manuscripts must be prepared using the D-JESS Template, available for download on the journal website.

2. Formatting Guidelines

  • Paper size: A4 (21 x 29.7 cm)

  • Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides

  • Main font: Times New Roman, 12 pt, justified

  • Section headings: Arial, 12 pt, bold

  • Spacing: Single spacing

  • Column: One-column layout

  • File format: Microsoft Word (.docx)

3. Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should be organized in the following sections:

A. Title and Author Information

  • The title must reflect the core idea of the article (maximum 14 words), written in sentence case.

  • Author names are listed without academic titles, followed by full institutional affiliations, city, postcode, and country.

  • Corresponding author’s email should be clearly indicated.

B. Abstract and Keywords

  • Abstract (both in English and Bahasa Indonesia): Maximum 200 words, written in one paragraph, italicized, font size 11 pt.

  • The abstract must include: (1) background and research question, (2) research approach or position, (3) method of discussion, and (4) main findings.

  • Keywords: 3–5 specific terms or phrases that reflect the key concepts of the article (italic, Times New Roman, 11 pt).

C. Main Text Sections

Each article should be structured using the following headings (typed as shown, in bold, Arial 12 pt):

  • Introduction: Explain the research context, rationale, problem formulation, literature review, and contribution.

  • Literature Review: Review relevant theoretical, empirical, and methodological sources.

  • Methods: Describe the research design, participants/data sources, instruments, and procedures clearly.

  • Results: Present findings objectively using tables/figures when necessary. Do not include interpretation here.

  • Discussion: Interpret and critically analyze findings, relate them to previous research, and discuss implications.

  • Conclusion: Summarize key findings, contributions, limitations, and suggestions for further research.

D. Tables and Figures

  • Tables are numbered consecutively and titled above the table (title in 12 pt).

  • Figures are numbered and captioned below the figure (caption in 12 pt).

  • Table/figure contents use font size 10 pt.

E. References

  • Use the APA 7th edition style.

  • It is highly recommended to use reference management software such as Zotero or Mendeley.

  • The “Insert Citation” and “Bibliography” functions in Microsoft Word may also be used.

4. Romanization of Arabic Terms

For articles using Arabic words, use transliteration in accordance with:

  • The Library of Congress Romanization Tables (for English manuscripts)

  • SKB Menteri Agama dan Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan No. 158/1987 dan 0543b/U/1987 (for Bahasa Indonesia manuscripts)

5. Ethical Considerations

  • All research involving human subjects must obtain appropriate ethical clearance and informed consent.

  • Authors must disclose any conflicts of interest and sources of funding.

6. Plagiarism Policy

  • All submissions will be screened using plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin or iThenticate).

  • The maximum similarity index allowed is 20%, excluding references.

  • Articles exceeding this threshold may be rejected or returned for revision.
